APEX @ SPRUCE PEAK in 1 month

I know its a long ways off…I’m really excited about this one. We’ve been working on this show since November, and its going to be an incredible evening!

APEX will be playing at Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center on Saturday February 20th at 7:30 PM. This band features some the best jazz and non-traditional musicians around. We’ll feature:

The first half of the concert will be instrumental, we’ll play some of our favorite musical works. The second half will be our arrangement of Stevie Wonder’s “Songs in the Key of Life,” featuring Lloyd Dugger as guest vocalist.

A Fleeting Animal opening weekend

I know I’m a day late…opening night was last night. This incredible production is one of the not to miss performances of the year! Opening night was incredible, and intense. What a powerful story told and set so   perfectly to the music composed by Eric Nielsen.

My good friend Turkish composer and pianist Erberk Eryılmaz (http://www.erberkeryilmaz.com/) will be in VT to hear his work played by TURNmusic! He and I will be putting on a house concert featuring his works for clarinet and piano. Please consider joining us for an afternoon!

We’ll have a cocktail hour with Hors d’oeuvres at 3:00, followed by a 45 min concert at 3:30. Desert will be served after the concert. Concert admission is by RSVP and we’re asking for a $25-$150 donation for TURNmusic.

PRESS PLAY V. 2 – III. from far, Erberk Eryilmaz

For volume 2 of PRESS PLAY, here is a quick recording I made of Erberk Eryilmaz‘s “III. from far.” This short solo piece is in the middle of his second miniature set for piano/clarinet, and orchestra/clarinet. I had the pleasure of playing this several times with him. It was inspired by the majestic mountains of Turkey, which really hit home to me in Vermont. Enjoy!

PRESS PLAY – Nocturne, Erik Nielsen

Enjoy the first edition of PRESS PLAY!

This piece was premiered o 12/19/09 at the Elley Long Music Center, in a concert sponsored and performed by the Northeast New Music Collective. This concert was dedicated to the music of Erik Nielsen, and featured two new premieres.

I made a pretty quick recording of this last week, in about an hour and half. The performance in 2009 had a recording made of it by Erik. I’ll post it at some point. The main differences between the two are, that my 2015 recording was about 2.5 minutes longer than the 2009 one. There are other differences of course between the two, and neither is a perfect recording, and I like them both for different reasons. My bass clarinet has a crack in the lower joint, right through a tone hole, hence the slight squeak on a few notes. I really enjoyed working up this piece again, it came right back to me.
